The Great Smoky Mountains National Park located on the border of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina and is easily accessible to 65% of the population of the country. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America’s most visited national park. It offers many nature hiking trails ending in breathtaking waterfalls, along with motor trails to simply drive around the park and spot wildlife. There are many examples of early to mid-century southern living scattered throughout the park as well. If you want to take a break from exploring the park, you can always make your way to Gatlinburg and wander through the many shops, restaurants and attractions. If you are looking for more adventurous options then you can go to nearby Pigeon Forge, home to Dolly Parton’s Dollywood. There in the theme park you can ride the many roller coasters and water rides as well as get a feel for the famous southern hospitality. Pigeon Forge also offers many restaurants, and shops for all different tastes, as well as wide array of entertainment options. The area also offers horseback riding, zip lining, and white water rafting if that is more your speed.
